Description of Orion ShortTube 80mm EQ Refractor Telescope
There's no rule that says you must have a big telescope to enjoy backyard astronomy. In fact, you don't need much more than a telescope that you can take outside and plop on the lawn. Simplicity is where it's at, and that's what we've designed into our ShortTube 80 EQ. It's compact and hassle free and for casual observing, you can't beat it. Its 80mm achromatic objective lens has a focal length of 400mm (f/5), so it's powerful enough and fast enough to deliver bright wide-field views of the sky. The 15.5" tube attaches to the stable EQ-1 equatorial mount with adjustable tripod. The mount is equipped with dual slow motion controls, or you can add an optional electronic drive for automatic tracking. The ST80 comes with an all-metal rack-and-pinion focuser, 6x26 correct-image finder scope, 45-deg correct-image diagonal, and two fully coated Sirius Plossl eyepieces.
