Observers who want to coax as much detail as possible out of the planets can do so using our thread-on color filters. Each color filter reduces other interfering or scattered wavelengths that smudge out certain wavelength-specific features. Hence, red filters bring out Martian surface detail while green increases contrast of Jupiter's Red Spot. Orion color filters are made from Hoya optical glass and vat-dyed for even color coating, and then given an anti-reflection coating. Their anodized aluminum cells are double-threaded to permit filter stacking and labeled with their Wratten filter number.Filters
