Customer Review: Necessary, Expensive, and Fragile

If you are going to couple your telescope to your DSLR (via a T-ring), this is a necessary component. There are more expensive models, but they are much more expensive. As mentioned, you may have to use a 2x barlow lens to aid with focus. I don't have much trouble with a prime focus set up, but the projection focus, while yielding more power, as an extremely narrow range. The compromise might be to use the barlow with the prime focus configuration.
While this adapter may look sturdy, it is not. Both ends are threaded. The metal is soft. One drop onto a hard surface is enough to dent the ends and mess up the threads, thus ruining your adapter.
The solution? Purchase the adapter. Practice and learn to use it effectively. Treat it as gently as you treat your camera and telescope eyepieces. Do this and it will serve you well.
P.S. Don't forget to purchase a t-ring that matches your camera. You will also want a remote cable, they aren't very expensive.
Description of 1.25" Orion Variable Universal Camera Adapter
Universal camera adapters allow attachment of a camera body to reflector or refractor telescopes for both prime-focus and eyepiece-projection photography. The adapter slides into the eyepiece holder as an eyepiece normally would. The adapters are composed of two detachable parts: a prime-focus adapter (or T-adapter) for prime-focus photography, and an extension tube for eyepiece-projection photography. A setscrew in the extension tube holds the eyepiece in place. The adapters are compatible with 1.25" focusers. Each is precision made of black-anodized aluminum and is threaded for filters. A T-ring, sold separately, is required to couple your specific camera body to the universal adapter.Telescope Accessories
